Never has the need for Canada to have a highly skilled, well-educated workforce been more urgent. Shifting demographics, globalization and technological change mean that a substantial investment in knowledge and skills development is essential to competitiveness and personal well-being.
CPRN has several research streams underway to determine what is needed to make sure Canada's workforce is well equipped for the future. Our Project, Pathways for Youth to the Labour Market, examines what helps and hinders young people on their route from school to a good job. CPRN is exploring Canada's capacity for adult learning – both employer driven and as pursued by individuals themselves. We have also investigated Canada's system of post-secondary education asking such questions as:
- What determines access?
- How to define quality?
- How can we foster quality without compromising access?
The Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation is a private and autonomous organization established by an Act of Parliament in 1998 with an endowment of $2.5 billion to help Canadians meet the challenges of a rapidly changing economy and society by creating opportunities for them to pursue their post-secondary education.
