In a recent presentation to the 14th John K. Friesen Conference at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Mary Pat MacKinnon, Director of CPRN's Public Involvement Network suggests one response. In Institutionalizing Citizen Engagement: What We Hope For and Where We Are Today, MacKinnon maintains that expanding the public's role in governing through engagement may make government "less convenient, but should rebuild trust."
