Research Report:

Review of Canadian Quality of Life Survey Data

by Matthew Mendelsohn

This paper, one of three background papers commissioned to launch the project and shape the design of the research, reports on a search of academic and commercial surveys, undertaken over the last 10 years, in the area of quality of life.  The author looks at four types of questions used in various polling initiatives, which asked citizens how satisfied they were with their "quality of life", with a number of elements of their lives deemed important to "quality of life", and how the system was performing on a number of elements deemed to be important to "quality of life".  Finally, responses were reviewed about what elements were important to a good quality of life.
