Government Compensation: Issues and Options
Issues associated with government compensation, and particularly comparisons with non-government compensation, continue to attract policy attention. That attention is legitimate since government pay being out of line with private sector pay has important implications whether government pay is "too high" or "too low." Excessive pay can lead to excessive government expenditures and hence higher taxes or budget deficits, both of which are keenly resisted today.
