Inclusion and Social Housing Practice in Canadian Cities: Following the Path from Good Intentions to Sustainable Projects

by Joël Thibert

Joël Thibert comments on the design aspects of income-mixing in social housing.  The author describes the policy, planning and design process that led to the creation of three successful recent socially-mixed projects in the regions of Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.  The paper explores the similarities and differences in the planning and design of the projects, describes the policy context for each and identifies a few success factors in the design of mixed-income projects.

The CPRN/SHSC Housing Research Internship and Scholar Program is funded by SHSC and run by CPRN.
