Building on the Common Ground: Report from the Saskatchewan HHR Consultation Conference

by Tom McIntosh

One of the most challenging issues in achieving health care reform is the planning and management of health human resources (HHR) to ensure that highly skilled professionals are in place to meet the service needs of Canadians. In February 2007, CPRN hosted a consultation on health human resource planning for the Government of Saskatchewan with the participation of Health Canada. Participants included government officials, regional health authority representatives, unions, professional associations, regulatory bodies, front-line workers and community and Aboriginal organizations from across Saskatchewan.  The conference discussed an Action Plan for achieving a framework for collaborative health human resources planning in Canada and identified priorities to address.
