Let's Start Paying the Debts We Are Leaving our Grandchildren

by Judith Maxwell

"A penny saved is a penny earned."  Wise advice that is worth following.  But for many of us, it isn't easy when, each month, we find our paycheque doesn't cover expenses.  Such is the case when we consider providing for future generations.  There are so many priorities competing for our attention today, it's difficult to consider what we're leaving behind for our children and grandchildren.  In Let's Start Paying the Debts We are Leaving our Grandchildren, Judith Maxwell, CPRN Senior Fellow, explores "how public policy and daily patterns of living might change if we began to pay more attention to the impacts of decisions on future generations."  The article appears in the Spring 2007 edition of Transition, published quarterly by the Vanier Institute of the Family.
