Don't Panic: A Hitchhiker's Guide to Chaoulli, Wait Times and the Politics of Private Insurance

by Tom McIntosh

The Supreme Court's 2005 Chaoulli decision has created quite a stir. The Court argued that waiting lists are so long in parts of the country that individuals should be able to resort to private insurance to access private health care services outside the public system. In a commentary, Don't Panic: A Hitchhiker's Guide to Chaoulli, Wait Times and the Politics of Private Insurance, Tom McIntosh, Director of CPRN's Health Network, analyzes the implications of that decision.
